"The Spirit DID Guide Our Feet"
We started out as one but ended up as a team of eight and we continue to call ourselves, "SolePurpose."
We participated in the Avon 3-Day New York walk. We were only able to walk one day out of the three due to weather conditions that made it unsafe for 5,680 walkers to continue. Our walk was canceled at the end of day one. We shared quite a lot amongst ourselves and amongst the other walkers. We walked with Breast Cancer survivors, those who had lost loved ones, and those of us who may become a target for this invasive disease but we did it! Not one of us would have done anything differently and we could not have done any better than we did. We gave it our all and then some. We believe that we came out winners personally and struck a blow for a cure. We don’t know how many people if given the choice to get up and walk that day would have. Personally, I feel that I have reached another plateau in my life’s spiritual journey. I have found out quite a lot about myself and have a stronger relationship with God. I have been blessed and want to share this blessing with everyone I come in contact with. I have also found that if you never try to reach for challenges and greater heights, you will never be able to rise to the occasions and struggles that we are faced with. Part of the success of getting through the times that are the most troublesome, is knowing that you are never alone and all you have to do is let God do his work through you. Would I do it again??? In a heartbeat. If they had allowed us to, I would have been out there again on that Saturday morning continuing to walk, because I knew that I could. While walking, I carried a handkerchief with names of survivors, those who had been afflicted, those who are presently suffering and those no longer with us. They are ALL the strength and the spirit of what we did is all about. So I am not ashamed of not completing 60 miles, as this is not what this walk was truly about. We helped someone and as a gift in return – we were given back so much more than words can even express and an experience that is totally beyond words. As a team, we were able to raise in excess of $14,000.00 against this invasive disease. So I thank all of you for your support. Prayer does work and I am sure that your prayers were with all of us as no one got hurt, got sick or had any kind of problems … not even the sniffles. I wear my Victory Shirt as a badge of honor that gleams brighter each time I remember each of you and the gift that was given to me. I am thankful to so many – but want to especially thank the members of team "SolePurpose," Ayana, Minnie, Roz, Dana, Darcey, Dawn, Andrea and our coach Shukri. Peace, Blessings and Love in the Spirit, - Diane For a final accocunting of this experience, please read the last 2 entries in my diary and also visit the photo section. |
